Mixed Media Technique
This mixed media painting is made from cassette tapes, on which multiple layers of acrylic have been applied using spray paint, brush and markers.
Background
Black cassette tapes are used in the background in this artwork. In some places you can see a bit of red, yellow or blue in the labels. The use of color has been deliberately kept to a minimum, so that all attention is focused on the painting. At the bottom right, the white tapes have been sprayed with blue spray paint. It brings the painting into contrast with the background.
Painting
Red and blue colors are leading in the painting. The portrait is made with (mixed) white and black paint. Shadows are used a lot, for example in the bandana, to make it look like fabric. Also in the face there is a clear light, dark contrast. The viewing direction as well as the shadows ensure a penetrating, strong stare.
In the lower right corner, dots are placed in pastel colors. Blue paint has been sprayed over it. This gives a special effect to the blue color and prevents it from becoming monotonous.
Framing
The image area is bordered by a sleek black frame, which provides a modern finish.
